By Assistant Chief Michael Gunther
January 16, 2020

A vehicle crashed into an SUV Thursday after fleeing law enforcement. The accident occurred at the intersection of Big Oak Church Road and Highway 24/27, between Eagle Springs and Robbins shortly after 3 p.m.

State Highway Patrol reported Moore County Deputies were in pursuit of a black BMW when the driver crossed the intersection slamming into a white SUV.

Chief Deputy Richard Maness confirmed their department was involved in the pursuit. Detectives were in the Spies area when the female driver passed by that they recognized as having outstanding warrants and no driver’s license.

When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled. Maness advised the pursuit lasted just a few short minutes before the female driver ran the stop sign at the intersection slamming into the SUV.

The driver of the BMW was transported by life-flight to UNC Trauma Center. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage. Two others were transported by ambulance to Moore Regional Hospital Pinehurst. The condition of the drivers and passenger is unknown at the time of this report.

Responding to the accident was Moore County Sheriffs Department, State Highway Patrol, Moore County EMS, Eagle Springs Fire and Rescue, Robbins Fire and Rescue, West End Fire and Rescue, and UNC Air Care.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
