West End Fire Department assisted neighboring departments with a report of an outside structure fire. A barn was destroyed in a fire Saturday afternoon in West End. The barn was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene on Malcolm Drive.

The barn contained bales of hay in one area, along with farm equipment stored in another section, and the contents were completely destroyed by the fire.

Fire crews worked to control the further spread of the fire into the woods behind the barn. The blaze spread about 30 feet into the woods by the time crews on the scene, but they were able to contain the fire.

Due to the distance from the nearest fire hydrant, several tankers were brought in to shuttle water to the scene. There were no injuries reported.

Responding to the fire were multiple units from Eastwood, West End, Pinehurst, Carthage, and Seven Lakes. Also on the scene was Moore County EMS, Public Safety, Sheriff’s Department, and N.C. Forestry.
