Firefighters responded to a house fire in the Eastwood area Thursday afternoon

Emergency responders were dispatched to the 2600 block of Murdocksville Road near NC Highway 73 to a reported structure fire.

The first arriving fire units reported a working structure fire inside of a single story home with smoke and flames showing.

Firefighters were able to make a quick initial attack on the fire before it had been able to spread bring it under control within 20 minutes after arriving according to fire officials at the scene.

There was no one injured in the afternoon fire, however authorities advised that the residents dog passed away in the fire.

Responding to this fire were units with Eastwood Fire & Rescue, Pinehurst Fire & Rescue Station #2, Carthage Fire & Rescue, West End Fire & Rescue, Seven Lakes Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.

According to authorities the cause of the fire was not known as of this report.
