The first-arriving units found a 7,500-square-foot, three-story single-family residence with heavy fire through the roof. Due to the size and complex layout of the home, a Second Alarm was quickly requested for additional personnel, along with a ladder truck from Southern Pines or a tower truck from Aberdeen. Just after 2:00 a.m., a Third Alarm was requested, bringing additional firefighters and apparatus to the scene. All occupants safely evacuated the residence prior to firefighters’ arrival. The American Red Cross responded to assist 6 adults and 8 children who were displaced by the fire. The fire was declared under control at approximately 2:25 a.m. Firefighters remained on scene for several more hours extinguishing hidden fire, checking for extension, and completing overhaul operations.
