West End Fire and Rescue was called out to an Outside Fire in the vicinity of 144 Gaston Way at 7:29 PM. Arriving units found a small area in the woods that was on fire. People in the area told the arriving units that they saw a glowing orange ball moving across the sky. They were concerned that this may be the cause of the fire.
There was difficulty gaining access to the fire due to no direct road to where the fire was. Due to the cold weather, low humidity and no wind the area did not spread greater than 15' x 10' total and was easily extinguished. After the fire was extinguished and they were doing there final sweep to make sure there were no hot spots present an orange wish lantern was recovered. These lanterns use a heat source to make them fly up into the sky and this is normally a candle or other such object. This lantern was most likely what the people saw slowly floating over there house and was probably the cause of the fire.

Even with the cold weather an outside fire can quickly get away from you and can cause a brush/forest fire. Please be careful this winter season.
