| The Chief Officers would like to thank everyone that joined us this evening to celebrate another successful year. There were many people that were recognized in helping us have a good year and allowed us to continue to grow and to challenge us to become better citizens. The two members that were awarded the Firefighter of the Year are Ashley Bloom and Josh Ellis. They both have proven themselves to be hard working and dedicated not only to the members of West End Fire and Rescue but to the entire community. They would not have been so successful if they did not have good leadership. That is why the Officer of the Year was awarded to Asst Chief Mike Cole. He has been instrumental with the growth of the fire department over the past year not only with the renovations of the stations but with his willingness to work along side the membership making them better citizens and firefighters. West End Fire and Rescue has someone on duty 24 hours a day but we still rely heavily on the Volunteer Members to respond at all hours of the day when the pager goes off. The Volunteer member that responded to the most calls this year with over 160 calls is Donnie Ellis. There were many volunteers that were very close to this number and that is the main reason we are as successful as we are. The department was presented with a hand made 3" all wood helmet shield and an American Flag made out of retired fire hose. The American Flag was made by one of our own, Captain Bill Jackson. They will be proudly displayed at the station. |
