These alarms could be anything from a dead battery to an actual alarm. Fire engines from both the Foxfire and West End stations responded.

When we arrived, we used our gas monitors to test the air quality. Ultimately a faulty hose and connection were found on a stove. CO levels near the appliance were well above safe limits. Positive pressure fans were used to force clean air into the house and the contaminated air out. We were able to solve the problem for the evening, but requested the homeowner contact a repair technician.

This should serve as a reminder that if you have gas appliances a CO alarm is needed. The alarms should be tested and batteries replaced per the manufactures instructions. If you ever have any questions about your smoke or CO alarms, please call the fire department at (910)673-0905 or 911 in an emergency.
